How To Cancel Equinox Holdings Membership

Equinox is another upscale gym similar to Life Time Fitness. It has more than 100 locations and more than 350 thousand members in the US and Canada. In 2019, it was ranked as the No. 4 gym in the US by the gym industry trade magazine “Club Industry.”

Membership costs at Equinox vary widely based on location. Typically, with a 12-month commitment, the monthly membership fee ranges from $200 to more than $500 per month. That works out from $2,400 to more than $6,000 per year.

The company has said that its members on average spend about $3,500 per year. By canceling your Equinox membership, you can save up to $6,000 per year per person.

How To Cancel Equinox Membership

You can cancel your Equinox membership in person, online, by mail, or by phone.

  • In-person: Talk to the Club Manager of your Equinox club
  • In writing: Sent through registered or certified mail
  • Phone: Call Concierge at 866-332-6549
  • Email: Send email to Concierge@Equinox.com

Your cancellation request is subject to any obligations of your membership agreement. For example, if you have signed up for a membership with a 12 months commitment, you will not be able to cancel before your 12 months are up. Similarly, if you have prepaid for say 12 months, you will not be able to get a refund for the amount you have prepaid.

EQuinox Membership Cancellation Policy

If you’re still in the first year of your membership, you can only cancel it if you’re at least 25 miles away from a gym and have a doctor’s note. All cancellations must be made in person with a club manager, or by phone or mail, at the club.

Your doctor needs to send a note to tell you that you can’t work out for more than six months. This is the form that will allow you to cancel your program.

If you cancel for any reason other than the first year, you will be charged the prorated amount due.

Equinox Reputation

Equinox bills itself as one of the top luxury gyms in the world and its offerings reflect that positioning. Top-tier instructors, chilled eucalyptus towels, Kiehl’s skincare products in the locker rooms, iris scanners, celebrity clients – Equinox has it all.

On the other hand, it is not uncommon to see users on Yelp complaining about Equinox’s billing practices. In the last 7 years, FTC has received close to 100 complaints about Equinox, most of them related to Equinox’s 45-day advance notice cancellation policy, which allegedly is very different from what was promised by Equinox’s salespeople.
