How Many People Does a Costco Cake Serve?
A Costco sheet cake can serve 48 guests. However, if your guests like their slices cut a little larger than average, you’ll probably only feed about 30 to 40 people. Some Costco cakes also come with a checkered design to help you know where to cut.
In my experience, we usually fed our entire group plus had leftovers. This always offers a sense of abundance to our guests. Plus, for under $20, it would be hard to find a comparable cake that can feed that many people.
You Can Customize Costco Cake
Costco cake is customizable. You can customize a Costco cake with basically any message or design you like at no extra cost. You can also customize the cake flavor, icing, and filling. Note that if you decide to customize your Costco cake, it will take a day or two for the cake to be ready. You will need to fill out a cake order form, drop it off in-store, and come back and pick it up within one to two days.

How to Order a Costco Cake
You can order a custom Costco sheet cake at any store with order forms available. However, if you don’t need a special-order cake, you can pick up one of their premade options in the bakery. Currently, Costco does not offer online cake ordering according to the official Costco website.
Tip: Costco Cake area is usually located in the back, near kitchen area next to meat section.
To order a custom Costco cake, you’ll need to follow these steps:
- Go to your local Costco at least 24 hours in advance (but better to go 2 days ahead, if you can) of your event so you have enough time to get a custom cake.
- Locate the bakery. The Costco bakery is typically located towards the back of the store.
- Ask for a cake order form. Many locations have the order forms sitting out near the cakes, but if you cannot find them just ask a worker and they will be happy to help you.
- Fill out the cake order form. You can choose between a white and chocolate base, with vanilla mousse filling and white buttercream frosting or chocolate mousse filling and chocolate buttercream frosting.
- Select your design. Costco has 27 year-round designs to choose from plus festive designs for most holidays and graduation.
- Select cake decorations (if desired). Costco also offers candles, mini balloons, and figurines to add to your cakes. If it’s not on the order form, just ask a worker what is available in your location.
- Indicate a pickup date and time. You can choose your pick-up date and time on the order form, however, it will need to be at least 1 day later, and some locations request 72 hours advance notice.
- Come back in 1 to 2 days to pick up your cake.

Several other big box stores offer similar sheet cakes including Walmart, Sam’s Club, and Bj’s. Additionally, Costco requires a membership to order their cakes and you have to go in-store to custom order a sheet-cake. If you don’t have a membership there are several workarounds to shop inside of Costco without a membership.
