How to Return Baby Registry Items At Amazon

Your baby registry is online, and all of your friends must purchase online. However, you can drop off your return at one of 18,000+ locations for free if that’s more convenient than a post office.

  1. Log into Amazon and go to your baby registry.
  2. Go to the returns center or the Thank You Lists and Returns
  3. Enter your order number included on the shipping receipt in your package.
  4. Select search and select the items you wish to return.
  5. Select “Return To Amazon Hub Locker” and choose your preferred location
  6. You’ll receive a drop-off code via email along with a reminder of the location.
  7. Package your item and take it to your selected drop-off location
  8. Enter your drop-off code.
  9. The Amazon Hub Locker will provide further instructions on the screen.

Ensure when you package your item that it’s no larger than 18 in x 14 in x 12; otherwise, it won’t fit into the return locker.

You will have until the close of business the following business day to return your item. Amazon will not guarantee your locker space after that time.

You can still try to return your item or cancel and reserve your space again.

How to Return Baby Registry Items By Mail To Amazon

You can return most items for free by mail. However, if your return label does not include postage, you will need to pay for the return using whatever method you want or drop the package off at an Amazon Hub Locker.

You can drop most items off as long as they will fit in the locker. If your item is too large, then drop-off will not be an option to select during your return.

  1. Log into Amazon and go to your baby registry.
  2. Go to the returns center or the Thank You Lists and Returns
  3. Enter your order number included on the shipping receipt in your package.
  4. Select search and select the items you wish to return.
  5. Select the return method, which could include USPS, FedEx, or another carrier.
  6. Package your item, including the return authorization inside the package
  7. Add the return label with the address to the outside of your package.
  8. Take your item to the nearest drop-off location for the carrier you picked.

You can use the same box that your item arrived in or a similar-sized box.

Types of Amazon Returns

You can return all baby registry items under $2,000 within 365 days of receiving the gift for free, and the purchase amount will be provided in an Amazon gift amount to your account. Items you purchase have a 90-day return window; otherwise, Amazon treats them the same.

You can return all items without any issue, Amazon will accept large items, and there are no final sale items for the baby registry. You can keep any special rewards you get through the baby registry from Amazon even if you return all items.

Does The Gift Sender Know If I Return Amazon Baby Registry Items?

If you return a baby registry item the gift-giver will not find out. However, if you need to return an item that costs over $2,000, then you will need the original purchaser to initiate the return, in which case they will know.

If you don’t want the original purchaser to know and the gift is over $2,000, then you will need to resell the item rather than return it. However, Amazon does offer the ability to resell through its website if that is your preference.

Will I Receive Returned Items From My Baby Registry?

Amazon has a stringent process on what items it will resell through the website as new. If an item is returned without being opened, it may be provided to you as a new item, even though it was returned at one point.

Any items that have been opened will likely be sent to an Amazon warehouse to be resold as a used or liquidation item and will not be eligible for baby registries on Amazon.

If you receive a baby gift that you believe has previously been opened or have concerns about the contents, you should immediately return the item for an exchange or refund.

Amazon Return Exceptions

What If The Return Window Has Passed: Amazon is strict on the return windows that you’re provided. You get 365 days or 90 days with the baby registry, which should be enough for most people.

Just be aware when you purchase your own items, as that does cut the return window down to 90 days, which may not be enough time if purchased too soon before birth.

What If The Item Is Damaged: Damaged items can be returned if you receive them damaged. If you damage an item and try to return it, you may not get a full refund.

While Amazon is strict on return windows, it’s less stringent on how much damage is acceptable or even if you return the item fully packaged as it was delivered to you. You have a good chance in most cases to still get a full refund on items you damage.

What If I Don’t Have A Receipt: Receipts are not required, but you must complete a return through the Amazon website for the refund to be issued to your account.

If you just send your baby registry item back to an address you have for Amazon, you won’t get your refund.

What If I Don’t Have The Original Packaging: Amazon is very lenient on returning all packaging. If you have the packaging, you should try to box everything up as best you can for return and include all of the accessories that came with the item.

If you don’t return all accessories or parts with the return, you may not get a full refund, but that will be up to Amazon to decide.

What If The Item Has Already Been Used: Depending on how heavily you’ve used the item or what the item is, you should be able to return lightly used items to Amazon.

Amazon will not accept heavily used or soiled items, or you may only receive a partial refund.
